First time i see a live hydra. Actually i did'nt expect to see one in the winter.

I found them in a lake in Crete.

Interesting. I know a guy in the UK that found some in a pond, near a spring in one end of the pond, and was able to keep them going in a small aquarium. They divided into hundreds eventually and he fed them daphnia. I'd love to find one in the wild here.

I find hydra fun to watch but rather difficult to photograph. Is the first photo in an aquaria or without a coverglass?

I've tried cementing stacks of several coverglasses on opposite ends of a slide to minimize the pressure of the main coverglass on the hydra. Well slides may be a bit too deep for photographing hydra.

I, too, find hydra in area ponds that have larger weeds growing in them.

First photo is without coverglass with a 5x objective. The particular hydra was very small so i manage to take some photos with decent depth of field.Second picture is with coverglass.
