The correct name is Choanocystis aculeata. The former name was indeed Acanthocystis aculeata, but the name Acanthocystis is now applied to species with spines with a central placed base. C. aculeata has spines with a base which resembles the leaf of a waterlily. The sad news is that positive identification of most Helizoans is only possible with an Electron Microscope. Within some weeks I will put Electron Microscopical pictures of Heliozoans on my website.
