Desmids - various species in one field of view

Post by Marek Mis »

I've managed to find these four species of Desmids together. From left to right - Cosmarium, Bambussina, Closterium, Netrium.

Mitch,

If about my finding I caught my sample in small lake in the middle of the forest. The bank of this lake has a lot of sphagnum and its water is brown and sour. I took my sample to home and after couple days I noticed a kind of film on the surface of the dish with the sample. Under the microscope the film was consisting of many various desmids. I'm enclosing one more image to show it better.

Very nice pictures. I see Cosmarium, Closterium (the small one is navicula), Micrasterias truncata, Netrium digitus, Xanthidium antilopeum and some for me unknown spec.
