Fascinating photo Ken! However, when I first saw it I really struggled to relate what I was seeing to my mental image of what a millipede should look like. That image was almost entirely based on the millipedes I had eagerly collected from under stones as a kid (age 10 to 14) in Malta. So off to Google to see if I could find something that looked more like your photo. Needless to say I found millipedes of every possible shape, size and colour ...and eventually a couple of possible candidates as near relatives to your 'pede. Am I even close?

The millipedes in Malta looked more like the ones at the bottom of the page in the last link.
