an unusual marine diatom: Guinardia striata

Post by Franz Neidl »

This is the marine diatom Guinardia striata. One cell was 175 µm long.
(It was unusual for me: because this diatom has not so many chloroplasts).
Obj. 20x DIC, stack 5 pictures
Obj. 20x DIC, stack with 8 p.

A very different diatom. Were you able to see it moving?

Hello Mitch,

I could'nt see that the cells moved as such. Insight the cells however, there was the movement of chloroplasts along "roads". (You can see these "roads" especially in the phase-contast images).
