New Finds

Post by Donw »

Howdy, all.

Set up a new 'Pond' on my desk. Been finding new critters. Here is a couple of them, submitted for your approval.

I am assuming this is a version of Loxodes. 20X APA.

This animal? seems to be one single cell. You are seeing about 90% of this one in the first pic. I've seen a few now that are easally 4 times longer. My first thought was Cyanobacteria. No obvious mode of locomotion. The first two pics are of its 'rear' end, the last is of its 'front' end. The ends have several protruding 'knobs'. Slow moving going 'forward', the 'head' tends to move in a circular motion, which makes focusing a real headach.

I am absolutely flabbergasted by the number of, and variety of, animals that live in and on mud.

Hello

I think that your first protozoan is Litonotus rather than Loxodes .

The others that you describe are Cyanobacteria> Many of them are capable of rotatory movement

All the Best
