Very imprssive images. This DIC thing rules!
How do you image live organisms with 40X objective? Do you put them between coverglass and slide with little water in between? I tried putting dirty water into glass slide with cavity but image quality was much to be desired in both light and dark fields an anything but 10{ objective. Just putting them between slide and cover slip gives better picture but water evapores very quickly.
I make water small between coverglass and slide but sufficient water in order that the microbes could swim with naturalness. I never use microscope slide with cavity.
Up to your usual standard Abel, which is to say sensational. You have one of the best performing combinations of microscope, DIC system and camera that I have seen whether in professional or amateur hands. (That's meant to be a drooling smiley!)
Those are spectacular pictures (as usual). Are you using a U-CA or U-ECA magnification changer on your BX-51? Also, could you post a picture of how you bring the flash illumination into your BX illuminator?
Abel, extraordinary images again!
My favorite is the n3, with its comic like "face".
Because I'm in the way of set up a DIC system with mixed parts, I have some technical questions about your setup:
- What DIC prism slider do you use? U-DICT, U-DICTS... . Does it induce color casts both when it's at the right position and when it's out of it?
- What is the distance between this prism slider and the objective shoulder?
- Is there any optical element between the objective and the DIC prism?
- I'm interested in the other end of your fiber optic light guide, where it meets the flash. Do you use any kind of lens to colimate the light into the fiber optic bundle?.
