Testate amoeba is an amoeba with teak "shell. " This teak siliceous material may be, in some species, covered with sand grains, diatoms, detritus ... The thecamoebians of this video (possibly Difflugia Pyroformis) has a size of approximately 200um Used light background illumination, oblique phase contrast and polarization mostar as teak.

Francisco, as always, excellent imaging from your CCD camera. It never ceases to amaze me that a single celled animal can build a house and fit it together so well with stuff he finds laying around.
