I have not seen this species yet, nor any of them with eggs. I guess I need to get out and get some new samples to recharge my aquarium. :)

Hello Mitch,

Sorry about the spelling...one a too many Brachionus. This variety was extremely common in this water sample from an outdoor fish pond. Many with 1-2 eggs but I have never seen one with such a cluthc of eggs.

I find this variety in many of my samples

Cheers

John

I haven't been at this very long, but what I have seen, especially in my aquarium, is that they seem to cycle through different species. For awhile there, I was getting nothing but bdelloid rotifer and had never seen a lapedella. Now I can't find a bdelloid anywhere and am over run by lapedella's. My last spin down in the centrifuge was loaded with them, and a few examples of a new kind I could not identify. So I am waiting to see what comes next.

But, I need to get out and get some new samples to add to the aquarium. I didn't know if it would even last this long, but it seems to be doing OK, going into 6 months now. It's given me a lot of things to look at through a frozen winter. :)
