I was really surprised at the cellular complexity of this marine bubble algae cell wall
8 frame focus stack using Olympus 40x SPlan achromat, 1.25x intermediate lens + 2.5x relay lens; flash lit DIC

Very nice detail in the image. So the red is the natural color of the plant?

The colour is deep red and natural in Botryocladia skottsbergii take a look at the decription in this ref http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2002- ... /index.php

Hmmm, the article talks like they are a threat, but to me, they look very interesting and easy to grow, maybe worth setting up a tank just for them. LOL

Mitch, its because captive reef tanks tend to be nutrient rich which encourages some species to out grow others. In a natural ecosystem they would be in balance.
