Hydra In Darkfield

Post by Mitch640 »

Having just figured out how to get the old Fluophot to do darkfield, after weeks of attempts and dozens of paper Oblique cutouts, the first thing I tried it on was a Hydra.

Excellent results Mitch! For the higher magnifications it helps to use immersion for the condenser. If you have a high NA codenser. You can use water instead of oil.

Good luck!

Thanks Wim. My condenser has a flip up lens, so no possibility of using it wet. It doesn't even have a flip out filter tray and my darkfield option is to place a dime in the middle of the top glass and open the iris all the way. If your careful to get the dime in the exact center, it works. This is why it took me so long to figure out, I was trying to put cut out paper filters below the condenser or even on the light exit on the base. :)

Thanks Arturo. I wish I was able to get a shot of the mouth, but he laid down in the depression slide the wrong way. They are so fragile, I did not want to move him and put him back in the water after just a few shots.

Thanks Francisco. Almost too big for microscope viewing. I used the 4x for these shots and the 2x might have been better. :)
