He came out of nowhere, circled the neighbors kid twice, bit him and shook him like a rat and then ate him in one bite.
These guys are very nasty characters.

re Lachrymaria
Nice pictures. I have seen them wagging around but have never seen them actually feeding/ingesting anything

Thanks John. I have only seen them in other peoples images or video. Charles Krebs has some real beauties posted, and Francisco has posted some video, but this is the first time I have ever seen one live. And he did not really extend his neck like in other pics I have seen. Took me awhile to figure out just what he was.
I got him and several others in a sample I took of some hornwort plant leaves from my microbe aquarium. I put two samples into two centrifuge tubes and spun them down for 3 minutes. Each got a small pellet of green at the bottom, and one of them had these and a large variety of other lifeforms in it.

Francisco, you may be right. I have very little experience with any of these lifeforms. I have changed the title of the thread after seeing the same animal posted by Charles.
It was quite shocking to see how it caught that little guy though. He is definitely a predator.
I did get much more video of this individual and several of his pack around that bit of debris. I will probably mix that video down tonight, as it will take several hours. This is the short version. I will post a link to the whole longer version tomorrow, as there are some interesting, although less exciting sections of how they hunt and interact in that part.
