Diatom

This diatom was stunning when viewed through the microscope and I could only partially capture this in my image. Olympus BH-2, 100x S plan achromat 1.25x tube and 2.5x photo lens. 4 frame stack with flash DIC.

Really nice. Very sharp for such high magnification. Does each single image look as sharp?

Hi Mitch, the individual frames tend to be sharper in areas within the DOF. The stacking software does tend to find transparent subjects difficult to stack so some sharpness is lost with gain in overall DOF.

Does using the DIC equipment make them sharper and more detailed? How do they compare to brightfield?

Overall sharpness appears slightly less but many of the features aren't visible without DIC.

Thanks for the information. The Olympus scopes seem to be very sharp.

I'm very new to the whole area having got my BH-2 a couple of weeks ago. I don't think you can go wrong with these instruments but the DIC almost triples the cost
