Amoeba frustated division?...video

Post by fpelectronica »

Hello
In this video we can see, I think, the process of division of a frustrated Ameba.
An amoeba begins his process of division.
The amoeba which is forming, is attacked by a ciliate, probably Prorodon, piercing its outer-ectoplasm and "drinks" the endoplasm.
The amoeba starts again his process of division
Prorodon strikes again causing damage to the amoeba, however, the process continues.
A new ciliate, probably Trachelocerca, start making a new attack pierced the ectoplasm which I believe closes again (9.00 to 9.25)
It gets start and drag the new Amoeba. The strike against an alga makes it drill out the endoplasm releasing ectoplasm that is absorbed by two Trachelocerca ciliates, then they returned to finish with the amoeba.

Wow, great video Francisco. I have not seen any of these animals.

I was rooting for the poor Amoeba by the end. He was just having a very bad day. LOL

Hi, Francesco,

This is not a dividing Amoeba. It is a dying Amoeba which behaves that way because of a changing environment, maybe warmer conditions while it had no time to acclimatize fast enough.
