Hi john,
it looks like Achromatium oxaliferum, a special bacterium. this one divide.nice shot! I post a similar picture months ago.

Can't help at all with ID, but this looks like something multi-cellular. Not a single celled protist with organelles. Is that right?

Nice series of shots. I am curious to know what camera you use.

Thank you for the ID suggestion. It certainly fits. Incidentally the area from where it was collected has a constant current ( small stream) that runs under the ice..apparently this bacterium requires both a good supply of rotting material + an interface of flowing water to provide enough oxygen for it to fix sulpher.
