Pit density on CD and DVD

Post by Gerd »

Image

Something technical this time....
DVD-ROM Pits on the left side, CD-ROM Pits on the right side of picture.
Both taken with a 100x Objective at incident lighting.
Magnification about 1300x at 300 DPI.
Thanks for looking,
Gerd

Really nice photographs, Gerd!

Considering how hard it is to image these things, it's amazing to me that they can be reliably read by a unit that costs less than $100 in a retail box, optics and electronics combined. :?

Very nice and revealing image!

Was there oil immersion? Were the specimens normal to the objective or at an angle?

thanks Rik and g4lab.
The photomicrographs were taken with a dry 100x Objective.
These are objectives for material science for incident lighting.
And the specimen were in normal position, 90 degrees to the optical path.
Thank you,
Gerd

To clarify...

Were these illuminated through the imaging lens, using "brightfield episcopic"?

Or around the side of the imaging lens, using "darkfield episcopic"?

Rik, illumination was through the imaging lens,
this is a episcopic DIC illumination.
Thanks,
Gerd

Gerd , I have enjoyed these images and the way you layed them out. I'm going to get my EPI DIC unit out and have a look for myself.

Superb!

Can you make them out at all without DIC?
