Marine diatom colony of Licmorphoa. 20 images captured with a 40x/1.30 EC Plan-Neofluar oil immersion lens, DIC, and stacked and retouched in ZS. The second is a single shot from the 63x/1.40 Plan-Apochromat lens to show the surface detail and nucleus.

A very interesting species. In the first shot, did the diatoms build that foot they are attached to?
