need help for identification

Post by Franz Neidl »

This time I dont have any idea what kind of object could it be. I find it often in marine plancton samples. It does'nt have eyes and almost never make mouvments (also in fresh samples).
The object of this picture was 1900 µm long.
First picture: Obj. 4x, brightfield
2.,3., 4. picture: DIC, stacks 6-9 pics.

Hi Franz,

I think this might be a detached antenna from a large copepod. The "head" being the internal part where the muscles are attached.

...but I could be 100% wrong !

regards,

Brian

Franz,

I too was thinking copepod, or similar crustacean, but was wondering about a leg with an external gill.
