a marine diatom (with setae)

Post by Franz Neidl »

This is a Chaetoceros (species ?) with its setae (=spines).
The setae have the function to help to avoid sinking of the planctonic diatoms.

Very nice! Either C decipiens or lorenzianus. It looks like decipiens, but lorenzianus is the one I expect in autumn (at least in the North Sea).

Best wishes, Rene
