Springtail on polypore mushroom
Sony DSC-W5 (attached to microsocpe tube, w/10WF eyepiece)
Program mode, camera focus @ infinity
1/13 sec. @ f/2.8 ISO 100
Meiji EMZ-13TR Stereomicroscope
6VDC built in halogen illuminator with blue diffuser

Refresh my memory, please -- is this the 5mm-wide field?

I believe so Rik, I cannot recall at the moment, at which magnification the shot was taken but a 5mm fov would be a good guess. Thanks Rik.

Excellent shot Ken! I saw one just like this a few weeks ago, out in the garden on a wet night.

Not sure what a polypore mushroom is but it makes a great background!

Polypores have a sort of honycombed underside instead of gills like most of us are used to seeing. The underside of bracket fungi look quite similar also.

I think morel fungi are like that

Thanks Doug, yeah that mushroom was full of springtails. I had it in a small white glass bowl and you could see hundreds of tiny springtails hoping around on it.
