I suppose we all know what these are and what they are used for but for those who want a simple explaination and do not know, they are nothing but photo-receptors, reacting to light brightness or intensity and contrasts around or in the vicinity of the insect...I think

Mid underside of the critter, thousands if not more, tiny pores abound over the chitinous body or exoskeleton. Right center there appears to be a light amber substance oozing from one of the pores. Could be a sealant of sorts, I don't really know, only guessing.

Considering what you have put this guy through, maybe it is nervous sweat coming out of the pores? Nice shots.
