a marine water flea: Evadne

Post by Franz Neidl »

This is Evadne (probably E. Nordmanni) from the Cladocera, Family Podonidae.
It was about 400 µm high and 475 mm broad.
Some informations about Evadne: http://www.vattenkikaren.gu.se/fakta/ar ... evade.html

first picture: Obj. 10x, DIC
second picture: the eye of Evadne, obj. 40x, DIC, stack with 9 pics.
third picture: on the right side you see the heart of Evadne, obj. 20x, DIC

By the way: In Greek mythology Evadne was the daughter of Poseidon...

Wow, I've never seen one of these before - fascinating images

Though we lean upon the same balustrade, the colours of the mountain are different.

Very cool. The DIC lighting makes them look like fossils found pressed in a stone. Something we have a lot of around here.
