Post by NikonUser »

EDIT: was "A Cladoceran - possibly Alona sp.?"; now identified thanks to Michel

From a FW lake amongst filamentous algae.
A laterally flat cladoceran.
Live, trapped between a cover glass and an algal strand but still able to move enough so that stacking frames not useful.
Single frame, Oly 10x S Plan + 2.5x photoeyepiece

ID, to genus, appreciated

As always, I am impressed with the quality and clarity of your images. I mean, it's nice to know their names, but it's the picture that tells the story. :)

Thanks Mitch.
I'm just beginning to learn the species and so my shots are somewhat sterile 'text images'. Once I get more familiar with these beasts I will try for artistic shots.
This species is named for the shape of the carapace resembling a harp.
