This is my third posting of ascorbic acid. (Made one late last year, and also earlier this year).
In those earlier posts I had used a piece of cellophane as a half wave plate. This time around I had some "official" phase plates so I wanted to see how they compared. (Frankly, the CD cellophane "phase plate" was quite effective and provides a nice "no-cost" option to those wishing to play around a little).
Always surprising how these crystals look different each time depending on the concentration and drying (and any "impurities" that may have crept in).
Ascobic acid (vitamin C)

Charlie,
Great photographs. I like the second one the most, although the fourth one is superb too. OK, all of theese images are very fine, but the mentioned above are the most beautiful for me
I have red your information about CD wraps - I didn't know about properties of this material ! I must wait when somebody buy the CD or DVD and I must steal the piece of wrap and add it to my lighting set in my microscope

Mitch,
Yes. Picked up a small bottle of ascorbic acid (crystalline) at a vitamin/health store. No methodology... I just add a little to a vial with warm water, shake it up until dissolved, and spread it on a slide to dry. Do a couple of slides, different concentrations, and you can be occupied for hours looking at them.Is this a liquid form of ascorbic acid on a slide, and allowed to dry?
