a ciliate: Zoothamnium?

Post by Franz Neidl »

I found this sessile ciliate in marine plancton (attached to a floating object).
I think the genus is Zoothamnium, but I would be happy to know also the species

4 pictures in DIC, Objective 40x, 20x and 10x.

Beautiful images. Everyone says these things aren't aware, can't be aware, but then how did they know to flock together? Some of them even have faces. LOL

Hello Franz,
Very nice pictures, especially the third one. I like the DIC method very much but it is not possible to gain this kind of equipment for me.
Regards
Marek
