Spiders No.9 – A side view.

Image

Leitz Ortholux microscope
4X Leitz projection eyepiece plus 1/3x relay lens
Leitz 4X Plan fluorite objective.
Image stack, 40 images at .002 inch increments
Reflected light, diffused fiber optic illumination
Canon 50D
Zerene and Photoshop processing.
Live subject.

A different look at another small orb weaving spider. This subject has wonderful bright colors on the abdomen. Unfortunately for image stacking, the internal organs are in almost constant motion and the skin of the abdomen is completely transparent. Many nice images had to be rejected due to the smearing of otherwise interesting detail.

Walt,

Quite a series of shots!

Are these in covered containers, or do you have some other way of keeping them where you want them?

You guessed it Charles. I have made up a bunch of special containers and cover them with large 24 x 36mm cover slips to reduce optical aberrations.
