Anartia Fatima (butterfly) scales

Post by RogelioMoreno »

Here is a Anartia Fatima scales image.

120 frames @ 0.4 microns.

Custom motorized Nikon Labophot, Nikon M Plan Apo 40/0.8 + Nikon PL 2.5X (around 100x on sensor). For the lighting I used a Nikon EPI illuminator.

Lovely! This is a much finer level of detail than we usually see on butterfly scales.

I notice that with the shadow-free lighting and the focus stacking, this image looks structurally very flat. I wonder, have you tried a synthetic stereo rendering to bring back the 3D structure?

Rik,

Thank you for your comments.

I will read about and try the synthetic stereo.
