Eutintinnus attached with the diatom Chaetoceros

Post by Franz Neidl »

This marine tintinnid Eutintinnus (spec. inquilinus ?) is able to swim attached (together with its lorica) with the diatom Chaetoceros. It seems it use it as a raft...

Obj. 20x Ph

P.S.: I indicate for German speaking participants of this forum an interesting article about this phenomenon:
Rudolf Drews, Klaus Hausmann: Eutintinnus inquilinus - Ein anhänglicher Ciliat, in: Mikrokosmos 96 (2007) 345- 348.

Franz,

This is wonderful (as is the Climacocylis you posted earlier). You really have a knack for finding interesting subjects in you diatom net!
