Shieldbugs

Both taken the same day (Sept 9th) ... but not the same one ... I think...

Image

Early(ish) morning, just 'sitting there' on the rim of a black plastic dustbin.

Reversed Minolta 50 / 2.8 ce enlarger lens
Bellows
Flash + pie dish foil reflectors

Image

Just as sun was setting, clouds coming and going - which is why it's 'hot' - I got it wrong, but still liked it ... and only had one chance as the diner returned :)

Canon 200mm FD macro + ext tubes
nat light

both uncropped
10D
Tripod
Hmade odd/ends / converter.

Nice shots! :D Shield does not protect against spiders. Stink neither.

If a spider were to do me that away...there would be a "STINK!" for sure and I would not be the one needing a shield. Sort of in your face on that first one, some good photographs there pp. :D

Very good DOF on the first one Paul. The second one looks like a Stinky spider boritto  Both are very nice.

Thx for the comments guys :)

Doug - re dof, I knew it'd be a problem with an unstacked pic 'cos of the 'eye / snout' distance - just tried different settings and picked what I thought was the best.

<< Sort of in your face ... >>

Few other options for a pic (at this mag) because of physical constraints etc ... I was amazed it sat there for so long, when all it prob. wanted to do was its equivalent of read the Sunday papers + coffee ... and had to put up with this 'big black thing' + lots of flashes going off in its face :)
