Thanks to Mr. Ken Ramos and the link that he provided under his post “Could Possibly be a Myxo” on 11/1/06 I have reviewed some of my early images. I believe I can take these out of the maybe category and announce them as likely myxomycetes. The match ups are based completely on the visual images alone.

The top image may be Perichaenachrysosperma, the middle Perichaenadepreea and the bottom image? Well, I am not certain yet.

Very interesting Photos Walt. I love the yellow color on the last shot. What I also notice is the very wet conditions these critters look like they were in, swamp conditions?

Thanks Doug.
These myxos however were a long way from a swamp. It is amazing how damp a ravine with a small spring fed creek can be with the right vegetation.

For us amateurs, photographs are about our only means of identifying these little organisms but as time and study goes on, I am sure we will get much better at it. Glad to see that the link I provided has been an asset, I found it to be much better than the first and being as it is provided by the U. of Ark. where the myxo study is headquarted I believe, we can pretty much be certain of our source of reference.

Myxo's usually do like the damper areas to sprout in there Doug, I can't recall of ever finding them around here in a fairly dry environment but they have been found in some, what we might consider, unusually dry areas though. :)
