Nitzan,

Welcome aboard -- superb photos! :D

Is that first one a courtship offering?

Welcome to the forums Nitzan. We have a wonderful group of people here and we hope you make yourself right at home. All three pictures are wonderful. I especially like the first one. It reminds me of a baby fly going out on its first hunt and coming home to momma with its first kill. The spider has beautiful copper colored eyes and the grasshopper stands out very :smt023 nicely against the green background. Welcome again and all I can say in closing is "I want to see More"

Welcome Nitzan! :D Great photographs! You've captured interesting flying robberfly with a pray and second one in the corner. I suppose other robberfly were in the contact with some surface. Right? Very nice jumping spider and grasshopper also, with lot of details and super corresponding backgrounds. :smt023 It must be very good macro lens you have.

Nice "clasical" composition in the third picture, just like I would like to be able to to it myself

The first one is awesome. Is this a male carrying a prey to a female as an exchange for a mating oppertunity ?

Welcome onboard, would love to see more pictures from you in the future.

cheers

These are beautiful shots Nitzan. I too am particularly partial to the first one. But you'll find a lot of hopper entusiasts on this forum too who'll appreciate that third shot. I agree with Erland, that it's a wonderful classical composition.

Keep up the great work.

Great composition with that Sigma 105mm. As much as I like the Canon 100mm Macro, I can't really aford one so a cheaper "starter" macro lens may be the way to go for now.

Wow -- interesting pair of pictures! #1 is clearly not just a crop of #4 -- different focus and spacing between the flies.

How many seconds between these pictures? How long did the fly hover there?

And I'm curious about technique. Is #1 a crop of something that looked a lot like #4 but was focused differently, or did you have enough time to actually move closer? (I'd think "zoom", but the Sigma 105 doesn't do that.)

Thanks,

Indeed! :!: Rik you have a great gift of noticing! :!: :D
I think it must be a very short time between capturing two photographs or this guy is a great hover master. 8)
I supose #4 precede #1.
Position of the leg on #4 is closer to abdomen then on #1.

The first picture was shot at 15:41:22, the last picture at 15:41:28 - it turns out that 6 seconds are enough time to move closer. The fly was hovering for 35 seconds.
