Red Valerian (Centranthus ruber) is eatable. The leaves can be used fresh in salads, the roots boiled in soups.

I bet you could eat the flowers also..looks like there is a lot of protein in the flowers also. Very nice picture Nikola

At least it is good for the butterfly. By the way, did not mention butterfly's name. Gonepteryx rhamni, female. :D

Lovely picture. Maybe the light is a bit too strong on parts of the butterfly though.

Nice to see you have this butterfly down south, it's very common where I live.

There is lots of red valerian round here, everyone has it in their gardens!

Agree. Maybe a lttle post processing could fix it. By the way Gonepteryx rhamni is a very bright species, esspecialy females.
It is very common here too, as well as in the continental as in the coastal parts of the country.
