Bejeweled Watchface

Post by beetleman »

My camera is blessed with 10x optical and up to 32x digital zoom features. I usually try and stay in the 10x range for all the things I shoot Especially if I am hand holding the camera. This is just a series of shots taken at different zoom settings. Gee, look at the fake jewel settings (fake prongs)

all shots are with the Canon 250D closeup lens on the camera. Full frame.

Nice, Doug. :D Second one looks still acceptable but third over-forced by digital zoom with evident loss in quality IMO.

Yep, they say do not even think about the digital zoom in a camera, always
look at the optical zoom.

I agree, digital zoom is usually lousy, note that I said usually not always, there are or have been some exceptions. Some pretty images though Doug, I did not know that camera would do that. :D

Some cameras have digital zoom "without loss" but with lower resolution which is equal as cropping you can make after on your computer with more freedom of choice.

I sould also state that The X factors I have on the photos are what the camera is saying for the zoom. I am not sure what the Canon 250D closeup lens adds to that X factor. The 10X optical zoom was one of the features that sold me on this camera. I think at the time I bought it, there were only a few cameras that had it (with fixed lenses).

Hmmm... Lets see... :-k
Basic lens calculator: 1/u + 1/v = 1/f.
Object distance (u)
Focal length (f)
Image distance (v)
Magnification (v/u)
Canon 250D closeup lens = 250mm or 1000/250 = +4 diopter

:-k Maybe simpler this way:

Magnification = focal length of lens / focal length of diopter
where the focal length of the diopter = 1000 / diopter strength.
For example if your lens is 50mm:
50/250 = 0.2 (5:1) :-k
Am I right? :D

Thats quite an ornate little watch!
I have to use digital zoom on my camera phone as theres no optical zoom. I only use it to get rid of all the black around the image, essential when using the 5X eyepiece as its not a wide field.
