2mm Mushrooms

Post by beetleman »

These are very tiny mushrooms that pop up every once in a while on one of my miniature orchids. They only last about a day and then they are gone..This time I decided to take a photo of them. The first shot is a general location shot and the second photo is a stack of 42 images to get some DOF on them. The heads are around 2mm in Diameter, maybe a little less.

Some really good close ups of them Doug, you even managed to capture a few drops of water on them and the mosses they are among. You know they almost look like myxo's. :D I am getting a kick out of my little terrarium. I may just go and get a very large fish tank and make a reall nice one with landscaping and some ferns, I like ferns, and put in a pond. :D

Doug, you've been showing us some deep stacks, and I can't seem to recall what your system is. :smt017

Tell us again how you do 42 closely spaced shots suitable for stacking?

Thanks,

Thanks Guys for the comments. Rik, what I am doing is basicly the same as you, I bought a macro rail http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/control ... ype=search in this case I set the camera in manual focus, I focused on the wood in the background and pulled the camera back with the rail until I am focusing on the wood on the left. The rail has no scale so I just try and move the knob a steady distance, probably 1-2mm at a time. I tried to take the picture without the rail and one mushroom was always out of focus with little DOF

Great job Doug! :smt023 That Helicon Focus is a really cool thing. By the way, is it Tillandsia plant on the first photo? :D

Your right Nikola, that is a Tillandsia plant. I actually brought this one back from Costa Rica when it was a wee little thing (don`t tell anyone)

Used to know a dealer in the UK who sold Bromeliads and he reckoned he superglued them to the bit of wood to get them started!
