I was walking by a Palo Verde tree in my yard one evening when something a little off caught my eyes, closer examination showed that it was a Lycaenid caterpillar being tended by ants in the genus Dorymyrmex.

Very different shot on that second one Gordon...Great work. I didn`t even see the caterpillar untill I read the post. Were they looking for a way to attack it or does the caterpiller give off some sweet reward for the ants?

Thanks. I admit I rather like the second shot. They are tending the caterpillar for sweet secretions When I first saw this I too did not see the caterpillar, but just knew something was not quite right about the twig .
