Introduction & Lichen Madness

Post by Biologyben »

Howdy. Google searches led me to your site as i contemplate my future DSLR setup. Then I noticed the profusion of lichen pics on the forum and must contrubute my own. This was taken in the Chuska mountains of New Mexico at around 7800 ft in elevation.

Also...my two favorite pictures, just for kicks. Both of these were taken in the Catoctin mountains of Maryland.

OK....so that last one isn't actually 'Macro' by strict standards....but it used my camera's macro mode.

....so it counts....right? :D

A very nice set of photographs there Ben. Those bright orange lichens may be Xanthoria elegans. Being sort of new to lichen study at the moment I would not venture to say exactly. By the way, I seem to be a bit late but let me welcome you to the forums. Your search on Google brought you to one of the best macro and microphotography sites on the web. Err...yes we are quite proud of ourselves  Again, some very nice images and we hope to see more Ben, thanks! :D

And a hearty welcome from me also Ben. :smt006 Glad to have you here. That Lichen shot is beautiful...I for one have never seen any that colorful. All three are very nice  We have a wonderful group of people and we know you will like it here. Take care
