Similar to a few lichens, fan shaped fruiting bodies. Found on acidic soils in woodlands and are camouflaged by their earthy color. Quite common in northern temperate zones, non-edible. :D

Dang, I was going to say it looked yummy. A great shot and a very interesting subject (nice little ant in there also) My neighbor grows exotic mushrooms for organic stores and I swear some of his have spawned on my tree in my back yard

That is quite possible Doug, since the spores from his exotic mushrooms are or can be carried by the slightest breeze. I can't help but to wonder about his mushrooms though. Since they are exotic; I am going to assume that they are not native to our environment. We all know what happens, sometimes, when an alien species is introduced into an ecosystem where it does not normally belong.

Yummy :D Looks like a chocolate. Is it a little ant on the mushroom? I see insects everywhere.

Yep Nikola, that is a little ant in there. I think there is another close by it or so it looks like. Anyway it, the mushroom, does look a little like some sort of confectionary. :D

I never thought about that, will have to ask him what kind he grows. I know he grows them outdoors on logs and compost.

Ask him about myxomcetes, "slime molds," if he has any of those growing among the fungi also. :D
