You can hear it purring!

I wonder why it has the red at the business end? Seems like enough to call attention to it, but not really enough to count as a "leave me alone, I'm nasty to eat!" warning.

Thanks Mike. Who knows why things in nature are the way they are, I have given up trying to figure out most of it. :D But you have raised a good point.

Getting really good with that Kodak! :wink: Lots of good details popping up in these. As for that concentration of reddish-orange pigments on or around the head and forelegs, could it be a concentration of alkalines in the area? :-k

That is one great looking caterpiller. I agree with Ken on the detail. I would say thet red, black and yellow are warning colors and with those hairs, I would not want to try and eat it :shock:
