Bugs in the morning

Post by Erland R.N. »

I emerge from the dark rainy north, with two pictures more than one year old

From my best dragonfly trip ever, to South Africa, I found two small bugs at 8 o'clock in the morning, at a garden-dragonfly-pond owned by a bird and dragonfly expert I visited.

Both Canon 5D, Sigma 150/2.8, and 1,4x converter, uncropped,
lying on the ground at the edge of the pond:

f/11, 1/50s, iso 1250

Hope you enjoy them.

Thank you for comments, and pointing out that they are called leaf hoppers.
White balanced was a bit tricky adjusting afterwards in raw conversion. I think the colors were a bit strange, and I might not have got it right. My first conversions with auto-wb looks strange though.

Beautiful pictures Erland. This is actually a Red-spotted Spittle Bug and is found all over SA except in the Cape area and are usually found in small groups. They like Kikuyu grass and sugar cane fields.
