We have many species of Jewel Beetles here. All are colourful and between 2 - 50mm. They have large eyes and the adults fed on pollen, nectar and foliage. Here is a quote from my book:
"Adults are short lived but immatures can take up to 35 years to complete their development, longer than for any other insect."
Some of the most beautiful beetles are in that family Joan. We have one here that is a bright metallic copper color. I agree with Ken on the details The more you look for insects, the more trained your eye gets in seeing little things that the normal person just passes by.

Thanks Doug. I have so many pics of interesting stuff but they are not suitable to post here I am afraid. I have saved some good ones to post during our winter so I do not have to sit with my mouth open looking at all the wonderful stuff being posted by others.
