Goldenrod Soldier Beetle

Post by beetleman »

Species Chauliognathus pennsylvanicus - Goldenrod Soldier Beetle. Another photo from the late summer archives using the Canon PowerShot S1 IS. Beetle was on a wild growing flower (corn flower I think)

Good shot, Doug. The oof pinkish area sets off and balances the strong yellows well. Is this beetle going after the nectar or eating the flower?

Thanks Irwin. There were lots of these beetles on the flowers and they were not damaging the flowers. I would say they were after the pollen or the nectar.
