The temps got into the lower 50's today with lots of sunshine, so why sit around the house? I took a quick trip to the foothills of the Black Mountains, under the shadow of Mt. Mitchell to come away with these.

Looking at the green of the moss brought something to mind that I recently read and that is like Blue Jays are not really blue, frogs...are not really green. There are no green pigments in them.

It is nice to still see some green (and red) around. All I see is white. We had a record December for snowfall this year and I am up to my neck with it. Where is the global warming? Both pictures are beautiful Ken. I love that red lichen

Well we may or may not be around for the global climax of the warming trend there Doug but from what I have been reading of those who really at the moment can only speculate, I would not want to be around. Of course their prognostications do seem to be well thoughtout and justifiable I suppose. In the meantime make the most of what we have, I hear Venus is a balmy 275°F this time of year.

Its great to get out and shoot in the middle of winter.
Sometimes when I look in PS i am amazed at what colors really are in my photo. Not what I woulld have thought. But when I remember that we create the colors that we see and that color is not a property of light...and it all almost makes sense.

Thanks Bruce, as you can see it is pretty dark in behind that moss and spider web. Don't know what lives back in there but I imagine if there were somthing, it was temporarily blinded for a second or two. Long enough for me to make my escape anyway. You know besides Match Stick Lichens or British Soldeirs, this is the first red lichens I have seen like that.
