Other fish

Stopped by a friend's place to view his new saltwater tank. Hard to shoot through the glass, but managed to get a couple of keepers:

Unfortunately, I've received a lot of "Err" messages while shooting, and the manual instructs me to get in touch with an authorized service representative. Not too pleased at that prospect!

Do the error messages have a code? With my Nikon D200 there is a list of error messages at the back of the manual (p192 in my case). For instance FE E means the lens aperture ring is not locked at it's minimum aperture, HI subject to bright for those settings leading to overexposure, and Lo underexposure.

Make sure your lens is fully turned and locked on the camera? Take the lens off and put it on again and see if that helps in case the electrical contacts are not quite mating.

Do you only get the error messages photographing aquariums? Are you using the pop-up flash close to the fish tank? I wonder if the flash reflection off the glass could be causing faulty exposure and the error message at times?

Hi Dave,

I read through the error codes at the back of the manual, the code is "Err". The manual says this is a "camera malfunction". It first happened while shooting the aquarium, but also happens while I'm working with my reptiles and other critters.

I did see the FE E error first when I was trying manual aperture and focus, I was hoping this "Err" message was also because I was doing something 'wrong'. What happens is I'll be shooting pretty much anything, then the camera 'misfires' and I miss the intended shot, and must release the shutter one or two times to get back to normal shooting.

Thanks,

Ryan

Have you tried a two button reset to get back to the manufacturers default settings, this sometimes clears any bugs. I presume this is similar to the D200. Look in your manuals index.

Could be because of overheat? :-k
I got similar error message after shoting too much in very short time. Camera refused to store the photographs to the memory media. After resetting to factory settings, pulling out the battery and waiting a few minutes everything was o.k. I've lost many good photographs that day.
Nice shots by the way. :D
Is it some kind of Muraena fish on #3?

Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar
errors are welcome. :D
