This captive rough-necked monitor is on full alert as he uses his tongue to scan for anything edible or threatening, yet keeps one eye firmly on the camera.

Haven't seen one of these guys for real since I left the islands years ago. If I correctly recall, these guys can be really aggressive and on top of that the tails, from what the navtive folk related to me, make pretty good table fare. Pretty plump looking critter, good shot there Mike. :smt023
