On a globular springtail and an aphid. #1 focus stacked using czm from 4 shots, #2 hand stacked from 3 shots. The springtail is about 1.8mm long

Yes, I prefer the first, too. Apart from being a good pic, the subject seems to have a 'bit of attitude' somehow or other.

Are these full frame (and presumably max mag on the mpe?) or cropped at all, Brian?

Paul they are both uncropped. #1 is at 5:1 I think #2 was at 3:1 - both taken on a 1.6 crop 20D.

Beautiful pictures Brian. Springtails are cute in a way, sorta like cartoon people :wink:

Fraid I love these little springtails - look like alien 6 legged cows especially when you find a herd of them grazing.
