Mating Sunflower Seed Stinkbugs - South Africa

Post by JoanYoung »

Agonoscelis versicoloratus
I found these mating on a wild flower pod
Image

I went back many hours later and it looked like she was laying her eggs inbetween the leaves of the flowers with the ant looking on.

It is funny how ants seem to get into everything when you are not looking for them in particular. Really nice images here Joan :D , my bugs have gone out of town for the moment.

Very Nice Joan. You are getting some good mileage from your Kodak for sure. Sure is a spiky looking ant also.

Two very colourful and interesting action shots Joan.

Judging from the shield patterns (and assuming pic2 is the female) then she must be the one standing on it's head in pic1  .

Thanks for the nice comment Bruce. :)
For the love of me, I cannot see a difference in their markings. LOL!! I must be blind or otherwise you have an excellent eye for these things!! I am watching the flower she was on to see if some babies come out but I don't know how long the incubation period is?
