budget macro shots

Post by arlon »

Just for fun I decided to try using my $50 18-55mm Nikon kit lens with a 3T closeup filter/adapter. We had a rainy day and as soon as it started to clear a lot of bees came out to grab a bite before the next front came by. Here are a few samples:

It is the plastic 18-55 kit lens that came with my D50. I think these lenses are a lot better optically than people give them credit for. Not very fast but who in the world wants a fast macro lens. Like I'm going to shoot ANY macro at f2.8? I want a lens that shoots well at f16-32, not wide. Lens speed just gives me more glass to have problems with not to mention the cost. This "KIT" lens with an adapter gave me more than I hoped for. A 3/4T adapter is now a standard item in my fanny pack for park walks.
