Palpares libelluloides - not fully grown individual

Post by MacroLuv »

A small one compared with adults. :D
Interstingly, I didn't notice pterostigma on adult ones but on this young individual it is nicely visible. (see #3)
Also, it still hasn't brown marks on the wings.

Thanks Jordan. :D
Antlions are a family of insects in the order Neuroptera, classified as Myrmeleontidae (sometimes spelled as Myrmeleonidae), from the Greek "myrmex", meaning "ant", and "leo(n)", meaning "lion". Strictly speaking the term antlion applies to the larval form of the members of this family. Antlions are worldwide in distribution, most common in arid and sandy habitats, and can be fairly small to very large (wingspan range of 2-15 cm). Antlions are omnivorous. The antlion larvae eat ants and other insects, while the adult antlion eats pollen and nectar.

Very nice photos Nikola. I like the hairs on the plant in picture 2. they look like little hooks  Interesting creatures!

Not pleasant feeling holding it in hand but they do not prod.
