This was on a broad leaf plant and is about 1/2 and inch in diameter.

Very interesting Joan.

It could be a shell of some insect.

Are there legs visible under left side? It looks translucent also. I can't be positive.

I agree that it looks like an egg shell, but if it is truly 1/2 inch across, that seems awfully large! May be the coccoon (I suspect that's not the technically correct word) of some larval form, maybe?

This is almost a jelly-like substance, almost slug or snail I would think. It had no legs or face I could see and there seems to be a slime trail on the leaf above it.
