Psychedelic hens a'peckin' ?

Post by puzzledpaul »

Had been altering the flash setup am currently messing around with and just wanted a bit of suitable subject matter to experiment on. This sufficed and when on screen, made me think of the (basics of the) title scene :)

So, I altered it slightly, imagining they'd had something a bit 'extra' in their feed that day ...

Slightly more 'normal' rendition of the scene.

10D + 100mm macro + tubes
Full frame, h.held (basically just a quick grab (test) shot)

Distance between the 'pins / tail feathers' is just under 8mm IRL, btw.

(What's depicted is something that's normally enclosed - but in this instance has completely rusted away thro being outside for many yrs)

Intersting shot with some patina expressivity but I like more "classical" #2.

Noticing of my "a" and "the" and other grammar

Thx for the comment, Nikola - but you spoilt the 'duck'* :)

Perhaps I'd better try to redeem the situation with something a bit more 'normal', eh ?

(first 2 pics depict the junction inside a power transistor, btw - with the outer TO3 case rusted away)

You know, I wondered what those "hens" really were, but the concept of a power transistor in a rusted-away TO3 case sure never occurred to me.

What do you have to do, to get a TO3 case to rot that badly?

Well, I had to look up what a TO3 was so I would know what you were talking about  Pretty cool the way it turned out.

Yeah, TO3's are not exactly what you'd call "leading edge". They were very popular when I was learning electronics, but that was over 40 years ago! These days, your best bet for finding even a picture is to get on eBay and search for "to3 transistor".

Absolutely nothing, Rik ... other than leave it outside for a good few years :)

Judging from what I can see on a couple of other components - '76 and '77, the bd's about 30 yrs old.

There's also the remains of what was a TO66 cased device - which, if anything, is in an even worse condition.

Considering the title - one of the classification systems seems fairly appropriate ... eg 2N3055 :)

Quick 1:1 approx grab shot of the (other) one mentioned in the last post.

Sorry state, eh ... compared with how it would've looked when first made :)
